The 10th District Race

CAPITOL FAX BLOG

Jan 28, 2010

Rep. Annazette Collins, Eddie Winters, Jonathan Goldman, others. Rep. Collins has the firm backing of Chicago Ald. Ed Smith, and that has always worked for her in the past. Smith’s organization is top notch, but the district’s demographics have been changing a bit, so we’ll see.

Eddie Winters ran against Collins last time and was thought to be a tough opponent. He spent over $110,000, but was defeated by an almost 2-1 margin - which is why I’m dubious about anyone winning this race other than Rep. Collins. Winters doesn’t have union backing like he did before and only raised $3,200 during the last six months of 2009. He has reported no fundraising activity this month.

Jonathan Goldman, a well-known and respected Statehouse lobbyist and activist, is hoping to take advantage of the district’s changing demographics. Goldman raised over $54K during the reporting period, spent $37K and had about $18K in the bank at the end of December. He has since reported raising about $9,100. Goldman called for an investigation of Collins yesterday, alleging “repeated” campaign fund violations, including allegedly converting campaign funds to personal use. He’s also been trying to find out more information about Collins’ state employment, but has been stymied so far by the Quinn administration, even though his Freedom of Information Act request seems to clearly be covered by the state’s new FOIA law.

Rep. Collins had about $54K going into the new year and has since raised about $38K. Another candidate, Joseph Sneed, has reported raising no money.”
