Dec. 1, 2009 10th District State Rep Candidate Jonathan Goldman Sets Up Campaign HQ in Heart of Wicker Park Grand Opening Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10a.m.-Noon Chicago – Jonathan Goldman, a Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 10th District, will hold an open house Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m.-Noon at his new campaign headquarters in Suite 212 of Wicker Park’s historic Tower Building, 1608 N. Milwaukee Ave. Supporters and the curious alike are invited to drop by for refreshments and the chance to meet the 10th District’s independent, progressive candidate. Goldman will chat about his priority issues, which include school reform, state fiscal responsibility, environmental protection, job creation and common sense gun control. On Nov. 2, Goldman filed 2,637 nominating petition signatures – more than five times the amount needed -- to get on the ballot for the Democratic primary, which takes place Feb. 2. He turned in one of the highest signature counts of the seven candidates in the race, which includes incumbent Annazette Collins. A longtime Bucktown resident, Goldman is a public interest advocate who has worked for change in Springfield from the outside for 17 years. Since the early 1990s, Goldman has fought for environmental, education, public health and consumer issues, building a strong track record as one of the most successful public interest advocates at the Capitol. Now, Goldman is running for state representative in order to effect positive change from the inside of Springfield’s corridors of power. “Springfield needs a leader who will tackle tough issues and make the hard decisions necessary to begin to solve the problems our state faces,” said Goldman. “I’m not afraid to do that. I’ve gotten things done in the Capitol as an advocate for non-profits for two decades, and I intend to put that experience to good use on the other side of the fence as a legislator.” Goldman most recently served for seven years as Executive Director of the Illinois Environmental Council, before starting Advocacy Incorporated, a public interest advocacy and consulting business serving non-profit organizations. During his IEC tenure, Goldman was named a “40 Under 40” Rising Star by Crain’s Chicago Business. He earned the title for his leadership with Partners for Parks and Wildlife, a group of more than 130 environmental and outdoor recreation organizations that rescued two land preservation programs from the state’s budget chopping block. Goldman’s other leadership roles have included Executive Director of the Lead Elimination Action Drive and positions with the Citizens Utility Board, the CityWide Coalition for School Reform and the Center for Neighborhood Technology. Goldman also has a long history of community involvement in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area, where he has lived for nearly 20 years. He is in his fifth term as an elected Local School Council member, and he is currently the LSC Chair at Drummond Montessori Magnet School. He has also served on the board of the Bucktown Community Organization. For more information, visit www.jonathanforillinois.com or call 888-633-2010. |
